In this month’s Editor’s Pick, myAO is featuring the winning case of the myAO CMF competition. This case presents a patient with significant facial asymmetry who underwent a unilateral wing osteotomy for correction. Initially prepared for orthognathic surgery, financial challenges delayed her treatment. Using a customized cutting guide and virtual planning, the procedure successfully balanced the mandibular base, resulting in a harmonious facial contour and stable occlusion at the two-week follow-up. Orthognathic surgery comprises a series of technical procedures aimed at the correction of the volume and position of the facial bones. Since the mandible and maxilla are tooth-bearing segments, a combined orthodontic-surgical treatment is required in order to attain an optimal occlusion.
