Case Report
Knee Disarticulation in Amyoplasia: A Quality-of-Life Salvage Intervention: A Report of 2 Cases.
We describe lower extremity management of a 14-year-old adolescent boy and 13-year-old adolescent girl with amyoplasia type of arthrogryposis who underwent bilateral knee disarticulation for recurrent knee flexion contracture and persistent pain. Both patients reported improvements in gross motor mobility and demonstrated enhanced scores across all Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) domains. They both recommend this procedure to other similarly affected patients and affirm they would undergo the procedure again./r/nAmputation in the amyoplasia population should not be viewed as a treatment failure but rather as a reasonable and predictable alternative in appropriately selected candidates.
