Complex, Displaced Intra-articular Scapular Fracture in a Young Athlete: A Case Report.
Intra-articular scapular fractures are rare injuries typically linked to high-energy trauma. We report a case of a 23-year-old male rugby player who sustained a comminuted, displaced intra-articular glenoid neck fracture with superior scapular border and coracoid involvement following a fall onto his adducted shoulder. He underwent open reduction and internal fixation using a lateral scapular body plate, achieving excellent intraoperative stability and range of motion. Postoperative recovery was remarkable, enabling return to rugby within a year./r/nThis case underscores the significance of individualized treatment in active patients and supports surgical intervention for complex scapular fractures to optimize functional outcomes.
